How It All Started
The Bone Kollector started the way most great things do — with a passion that refused to stay quiet. What began as a fascination with the raw beauty of natural bone evolved into a full craft: transforming authentic cow skulls into hand-carved works of art.
Each piece starts with a real, naturally shed or ethically sourced cow skull. No two skulls are identical, which means no two finished pieces ever are either. That's not a limitation — it's the whole point.
From intricate floral carvings to bold collegiate team designs, every cut is made by hand with precision tools and a steady eye. Glass inlay work adds color and dimension that catches the light in ways paint simply can't.
The Process
From raw bone to finished art — here's how each piece comes to life.
Sourcing & Prep
Every skull is carefully selected for quality and character. Each one is cleaned, dried, and inspected before a single tool touches it.
Design & Layout
Custom designs are sketched and mapped directly onto the skull surface. For collegiate pieces, team colors and farm/ranch brands are incorporated with precision.
Hand Carving
Using rotary tools the design is carved into the bone layer by layer. This is the most time-intensive step — and the most rewarding.
Glass Inlay
Colored glass or mosaic is cut, shaped, and secured into the skulls. When light hits the glass, the piece comes alive with depth and brilliance.
Finishing & Sealing
The finished piece is sealed to protect the carving and inlay work, then inspected one final time before it ships to its new home.
